Pressure mounting

Super1600 pole secured as Supercars get wild.

The temperature of the competition is rising and the pressure is beginning to show. The last race of the second heat brought a full five car grid, but by the time they came under starter’s orders for the second time, only four remained, and the one that was missing was Sverre Isachsen who had stepped out of his Ford Focus in the first corner, the car damaged in an incident that occurred as the pack left the grid. Isachsen’s car appeared to go sideways from where there was contact with those alongside. Stig-Olov Walfridsson’s Renault Clio suffered front end panel damage in the incident but the Swede led the restart until passed by Ludvig Hunsbedt, a front puncture, and rear suspension damage then forced Walfridsson to slow. Hunsbedt led until he took the Joker Lap, at which point Davy Jeanney burst through to the take the win.

That was easily the most entertaining race of the day, but elsewhere there was plenty of action: Tanner Foust and Pat Doran exchanged paintwork and there was an incident when David Binks, Michaël De Keersmaecker and Pavel Koutný all tried to get into the Joker Lap straight from the grid, the latter pair spinning but rejoining the race. Jeanney emerged as fastest, Liam Doran getting a clear run and setting second fastest time.

The other classes were much cleaner and, except for Patrick Mertens’ exit from the event with engine problems, drivline problems for Koen Pauwels and a jump start by Christian Petrakovits, there was little to report as Andreas Bakkerud secured the Super1600 A final pole and and Roman Častoral continued his very impressive run with fastest time ahead of Lars Øivind  Enerberg in TouringCar.
